Flush Mount Ceiling Fans Information

Flush mount ceiling fans make perfect addition to the smaller, unventilated rooms that are in need of a sufficient amount of air flow. If you are looking for a fan to add to a child's bedroom, a low-ceilinged kitchen or a closet space of your house, the low profile ceiling fan will cool the room off while creating attractive visual appearance at the same time.

Similar to the standard models, the flushmount fan is made by many different manufacturers and comes in a variety of different designs and styles.

When searching for the ideal product for your space, keep in mind these information:

  • Flush mounted, low profile and hugger ceiling fans are all the same type of fan, only named a little differently; they are all installed in smaller rooms that need some air circulation
  • Are normally installed in rooms that are generally smaller, but they require at least an eight foot clearance
  • Are mounted "flush" to the ceiling; the center rod, called the downrod, which suspends the standard fan is not normally used for flush mount fans
  • Can decrease electrical costs, especially if you combine them with air conditioning for maximum power usage efficiency
  • Can be found for a wide range of prices, but it is conducive to purchase a flush mount ceiling fan that performs the best, at a higher price range

Calculate Proper Fan Size by the Room Dimension

Based on Energy Star publication, there are suggested room dimensions for particular fan sizes. The mounting recommendations are:

  • Up to 75 square feet - 29”-36”
  • 76-144 square feet - 36”-42”
  • 144-225 square feet - 43”-49”
  • 225-400 square feet - 50”-54”

Outdoor Flush Mount Ceiling Fan

These fans keep the air moving in outside areas such as a pool, gazebo or backyard. They are especially comforting on hot days with no air movement. Some waterproof outdoor damp hugger models are also designed to withstand wet weather conditions with high level of moisture, and acidity like resisting rain water damage.

You will also find some hugger outdoor ceiling fans with light fixtures to illuminate as well as bring a nice breeze to the outside area.

Flush Mount Ceiling Fans with Lights

Indoor only hugger fans may also come with lighting options, but they are not always recommended because the fans already hang low in the first place. If a lighting fixture is added, it extends the length by another six to ten inches. Before purchasing one of the beautiful low profile fans with lights or even a light kit, make sure there is enough clearance between the floor and where the light will hang down.

CFM rating

The higher the CFM (cubic feet of air flow per minute) rating the better, to compensate for the shorter distance between the blades and the ceiling. The CFM rating is the measurement of how much air the fan moves; the higher the rating, the faster the wind speed and the more efficient the fan circulates the air.

Blades

The hugger fan can have anywhere between three to five blades. The normal length for flush mount fan blades are 36” to 46” wide, on the smaller end of the blade scale. This allows for shorter distances between the walls. In general, the best air movers are going to be the fans with either more blades or longer blades, and unsurpassed air flow includes both.

When installing, the blades should be absolutely no less than seven feet from the floor and at least 18 inches from the surrounding walls, so measure accordingly.

Motors

The motors vary with each manufacturer. Most are made sufficiently durable and carry a lifetime warranty, so if the motor stops running, you can go and get a new one.

The motor determines the speeds of the fan; similar to the standard ceiling fan, most flushmount fans have a high, medium and low setting.

Consumer reviews recommend the Hunter WhisperWind ceiling fan, which promises and delivers whisper quiet air circulation.

Where to Buy
